Will read it later maybe. I try and avoid drama unless absolutely necessary, and I don’t sense high levels of ill-will here. Sounded like an anonymous email I received–the person didn’t want a reply, but I suppose a general one is in order…
I don’t mind if people share the game with their friends, the whole word-of-mouth thing. What I do mind is people sharing it with strangers and whoever, giving copies to anyone and everyone. I know it’s an aspect of the business, but damn yall. The game was pirated within like a week after its initial release–I wasn’t expecting that to happen until the third or fourth game.
Most publicity is good publicity when starting out, and sales are a lot better than what we expected, so I can’t get too mad. It used to easily send me into the fury too, so I know how you feel 🙂
September 1, 2012 at 8:53 am #1000its why everything now today has DRM and such. Kaive, you NEED to make a key for this game. I know someones going to crack it eventually, but this is where the programmers get things done.
Another thing is, I wish there was a way to lock it to a name. See, it’d make things so much easier if you are able to give someone a special version according to their name. For instance, after you pay for the game- the game downloads with a particular code locked to that game, and your name inside the game itself.
September 16, 2012 at 6:09 pm #1014I disagree; DRM free. Keygens are easy to make, believe me. (Haven’t made any but I know those who can, and they’ve become exceedingly good at it.) A key would only be an annoyance to those that have actually paid.
I should also point out that “locking” it to a name is also probably a bad idea if you’ve paid in full, but having a default name for gifting is probably good. Although it’s probably somewhat difficult to dynamically generate an installer that knows in advance what the default name should be. Perhaps – and this is a big “perhaps” – you could zip up something with a simple file inside that has the default name, and maybe even a default character setup, but that’s a bit convoluted for something that minor.
September 17, 2012 at 6:55 pm #1019Actually, I’m rather glad CG doesn’t have any DRM or other locks on it.. otherwise I would probably have never gotten it. I had it given to me by a fellow fur and loved it instantly. Sure, the link to the demo would probably have sufficed, but that’s the way it is. (I will throw the 20$ your way asap, as a late atonement. Got a tip jar somewhere?).
Besides, I’ve worked with various software locking mechanisms in my previous job.. and the one lesson I’ve taken from there was: if someone can lock it, someone else will find a way to unlock it. Making it more complicated will only piss off the lawful customers in the long run.
