Not sure if this is a breach of a rule or not, but I hope it’s not.
It’s no secret that a fair few furries are either artists or writers, so what I’m hoping to achieve with this is a little hub for them to maybe share certain tips, tricks and all sorts of other handy things.
It would also be nice to see some links to art and stories, or offers to those on this site for discounts or even freebies.
This would all seriously help artists that are maybe undiscovered, or even just starting out, heck even ones that are well known could learn a trick or two from it . So let’s get this ball rolling and help the furry creaters thrithe!
August 3, 2012 at 2:05 pm #930It’s fine 🙂
I really need to change those emote icons at some point…
This is kind of the same reasoning behind my want to review other furry games, as I feel a lot of them go undiscovered, and there’s no one place that really encourages and celebrates them.
Think you’ll have a hard time getting people to share tips and tricks, unless you’re more specific though. I once thought about sharing my writing tricks, but was shot down by someone as I haven’t really proven myself yet. Can see what they mean, as it’s better to focus on writing great stuff, than telling others how to beforehand.
Can dump some furry writer website links. Think artists have a good idea where to go. It’s the musicians that have the hardest time, I think. Love those guys and gals.
August 3, 2012 at 3:15 pm #932I think they’re ok as they are, allthough maybe adding a furry touch somehow would be nice 😛
And I agree, it’s hard for games to really make it sometimes as the only places to post furry ones are the likes of FA, IB, maybe e621 and maybe fchan
As for the tips and tricks thing, I want a whole range on here if we can get them. Simple things from how to work a tablet well to how to paint without smudging. Just simple little things that will improve art for people.
And the musicians, well I dun even know many of them, but I can guess it’s hard there because everyone seems to think art or writing when they talk about anything furry.
August 5, 2012 at 3:17 am #933If there’s any furry artist recommendations on this site, I’ll check them out. Too lazy to do my own search and am out of touch from not taking a good look in years.
There are art types other than text, music, and 2d graphics. Like sculptures and clothwork. Should it all be brought out?
Impy, I think about the music genre of dubstep when I talk about furry, does that count? Seriously, though, I think it’s pretty optimistic that people don’t just think about porn when they talk about furries.
What even makes music furry music? Being made by a furry? That would imply a table made by a furry would be a furry table. Does it require a certain amount of association with furry topics/interests? Would that association need to be explicit or should implicit association be a trustworthy source?
Kaive, if you start making custom emoticons, is there going to be one of your avatar? There have been a few occasions where I’ve wanted to express that image, though admittedly not in this forum as of yet. This happy interested face from the shadows. It is kind of creepy and I like it.
August 5, 2012 at 5:10 am #934You bring a lot of good points to the table mr evilmathmagician (sorry don’t know if you like this shortenned in any way or not).
I think that everything that spawns from a furry’s creative paws could be placed on here in theory. The actual doing of such however would require many links and much time. I’m by no means saying this will stop us from trying.
As for the music thing, I would have to take your side again. A good deal of furry-made music is tapping into the dubstep genre. I haven’t heard much of our music if I’m completely honest, but what I have heard is prety much all dubstep.
To get the ball rolling as they say, we have to start this puppy up. So I’m going to add a few links to my pages from FA and IB. My art isn’t of a high standard, but my stories are a good example of writing that could maybe give some people here enjoyment or even help with their own writing.
So here goes! http://www.furaffinity.net/user/implements73/ and https://inkbunny.net/implements73 . Please keep an eye on the tags in my latest story on IB though, it’s not for everyone.
August 9, 2012 at 4:39 pm #941Music is really strange in this context. Usually gets its own category on some of the art-share sites. While I love that it’s there, it’s hard to connect a type of music as furry.
Having talked to some furry musicians, they tend to have a really hard time marketing their stuff. Music is more of a universal medium, I guess. There are some songs with lyrics meant for the fandom, and searching real quick, just found something called “Yiff! A Furry Musical”… can’t make this stuff up.
Honestly, haven’t heard much of the dubstep artists. From my experience, it’s usually a lot of trance/techno, some chiptunes, and a surprising number of classical/opera/musicals.
A good way to find tips/tricks is to search for ‘tutorials’ on any big art site, like FA or Deviantart. Could probably do the same for the various fiction sites out there too.
(Was thinking of just adding ears and tails to the smiley icons. Who knows what I’ll do though.)
August 9, 2012 at 4:49 pm #942Also!
Impy, noticed you didn’t post a sofurry.com link. It used to be nothing but stories, and is probably a better place than those two for furry fiction. At least worth a look if you’re into writing furry stuff.
August 12, 2012 at 2:31 pm #946Thanks for the tips Kaive, and as for the icon thing that would be cool and cute all at the same time^^ I actually managed to take a peak at sofurry and created an account, so if you want the link to that here it is : ) http://implements73.sofurry.com/
