And my version – http://www.imagebam.com/image/c77938237209573February 13, 2013 at 11:59 pm #1598What operating system are you running?
February 14, 2013 at 12:16 am #1599Also, I have a hunch in your case it might have something to do with some weird text encoding of Windows. Not sure what exactly, but given it hangs on text, it’s a hunch…
February 14, 2013 at 7:30 am #1600Server 2008 Web on base Vista, in previous version all was in ok. I’ll check now … ye all ok .
Version and screen as is – http://www.imagebam.com/image/e4b2dc237247184 (version), http://www.imagebam.com/image/adfea5237247193 – moment.Yes of course possible much, but why at this moment and not before not early.
It’s strange.February 14, 2013 at 1:45 pm #1602Hm… We haven’t really tested for servers and it seems to be working for everyone else.
As to why that moment and not any other, I think the “?” in “I don?t think” is the answer. It should be “I don’t think”, so we must have unintentionally slipped in a special encoding of the apostrophe character into the script’s text file.
To fix this, in the install directory, find the “data” subfolder, open the file “1_2b.txt”, find the line in question and replace the “don’t” with “don’t” (if you type it manually–do *not* paste it from here–it will make a difference.)
Thanks for finding this, have corrected it and will upload it later today 🙂
February 14, 2013 at 2:56 pm #1605Well this in version 1.3 but how about 1.4 ?
February 14, 2013 at 3:36 pm #1606Ok I founded this
So who’s this hot piece of meat?#I don’t think we’ve met before.
– So who’s this hot piece of meat? I don’t think we’ve met before. – with deleted # problem solved. Now all OK)
February 14, 2013 at 4:09 pm #1607The “#” symbol is actually interpreted as a new line. I think it was put in because that line was running outside the text box for whatever reason in the first version. It shouldn’t cause any errors.
In your v1.4 screenshot, the same apostrophe mistype is there, just displayed differently. It shows “I don think”, removing the last part of “don’t”.
I must admit, this really worried me at first, but am glad we figured it out ^^
The embarrassing part is, this has been there ever since the initial release…
February 16, 2013 at 3:25 am #1609The same bug pops up on Monday evening in Week 5, when Troy and Chet are in Zell’s room. Chet’s dialogue reads “I don get it.”
The coded line from 5_1b.txt is
He goes through a boyfriend, what, like every month online? /more
I don’t get it.
I wonder if it’s got something to do with the ? then the ‘ on the following line? I resolved it by changing “don’t” to “do not”.(Using Win7, by the way.)
February 16, 2013 at 6:07 am #1610There’s another one in sebastion_6.txt – same thing, a ? followed by a ‘
February 16, 2013 at 9:48 pm #1611Thanks Phreddy! Will fix that and upload again. In fact, will spend some time to go through every file to double check.
My final guess as to the error would be… the script was originally written in MS Word, which is rich text, where it automatically changes ‘ into the fancy single closed-quote, and the game has no idea what that character is, so it will display a ? instead. (Saying this as I had to manually change each before version 1)
Other than that, no other errors! Hurray, can finally focus on House of Tail XD
Someone had to update their DirectX since the game now requires (the relatively new) XINPUT1_3 dll, and I think the game should be able to supply it if it doesn’t exist (added to the minor update fixing these text errors.) Just saying in case anyone else has experienced this.
February 17, 2013 at 12:39 pm #1616And updated and uploaded!
Please please let us know if anything else comes up~
