None so far. Am very curious to test this and see what exactly happens.
June 15, 2013 at 12:45 am #2003Another interesting thing: Common Grounds went black and I had to close it after the screensaver kicked in, but the window did not close. Never noticed that before.
EDIT: Total derp time, I just now noticed V. 6.11.13 is out. One moment while I install the new version… ¬¬

June 15, 2013 at 1:45 am #2005Ok, Build 6.11.13:
Save/Load – Game loads and plays correctly, however the indicator on the message banner still resets to ‘0’. The day indicator above the household funds reads the correct day count and the game will end on the correct day number (ie: a 40-day game will still end on day 40.)
Resizing/full screen mode – Game still distorts if the window is resized and if a 4:3 aspect monitor (such as 1024×768, 1280×1024, etc…) is used for fullscreen (the “[]” button on the window itself) mode. Graphics are not affected by fullscreening on a widescreen monitor (1280×768 and so on.)
Screensavers and locking the computer – Game still closes/crashes when a screensaver or locking Windows (Windows button + L) occurs.
That’s it for now!

June 17, 2013 at 10:27 pm #2017More juicy bugs! Should be able to knock those out real quick, (except for the screensaver and computer lock.)
June 18, 2013 at 4:11 am #2022I’m thinking for the readme/how-to/manual, include a recommendation to shut off screensavers before playing (older games had this because errors would and did occur if a screensaver interrupted the game.) I’ve thought it over and really can’t figure out why this would happen if a keystroke isn’t mapped to quit the game. The browser version is safe, since Firefox/IE/Opera/Safari/whatever contains the game and protects it like standard web content when the screensaver activates or the computer is locked >_>
June 19, 2013 at 8:42 am #2030Good idea, will add that.
My guess is something like… the screensaver will flush the textures saved to memory, and while I have put in a failsafe (if the textures are empty the game will force itself to re-make them) I’ve never exactly ‘fully tested’ it. (By textures, I mean combining all the images and text that don’t change on maps into one image to speed up the frame rate.)
June 22, 2013 at 11:55 pm #2046Here we go *cracks knuckles*
Online build only: – Frame rate noticeably slower than before. Slowness seems to get worse as game progresses and the house gets larger.
Build 6.21.13 only: – Graphics still distort when the window is re-sized.
– Game crashes/closes on screensaver/lock (known issue, remedy still unknown. Plus, yours truly forgot to turn off his screensaver when doing a runthrough, duh-herp!)Both: – Items of lower ability not appearing in item store when a high-level character is buying, forcing the purchase of expensive high-ability items. Slightly inconvenient when funds are low, critical problem for scenario play.
– Items going out of stock at the store when more then three are needed.
– 3 Qty potions expiring/using up after one day instead of three OR seems to go to a single quantity when put into the house inventory. Either way they seem to run out before they should.
– Some characters requiring rest at only half health while others seem to go to ‘0’ and still not get a ‘+’ flag. I notice this mostly happening with high-toughness characters wearing out earlier than weaker characters, which makes no sense >_>
– Maybe my math is just horrible, but the percentage skills don’t seen to be affecting stats correctly. Occurs at random times…- This reply was modified 11 years, 5 months ago by Firewolfe. Reason: Removed annoying emoticon
June 24, 2013 at 8:14 am #2051Framerate for the web version is very concerning. Would love to spend some time to get that sorted out.
Research update about the screensaver and Windows-lock:
The game still thinks its textures exist, even though they’ve been garbled or blanked. I don’t like the idea of turning off people’s screensavers while the game’s running. My only thought is setting a keyboard key that will force the game to redraw all existing textures. The quantity of potions is how many are in stock. The pricing needs a lot of adjusting, but the idea is characters with more reputation will have access to better items. Not sure if we should make it so they have access to everything lower reps could access too(?) The healing potions in game are all one-use (so far).
Very interesting find about the health and toughness thing. And I think you’re right about the percentage skills, was bugging me too.
June 24, 2013 at 7:22 pm #2052Just got an interesting bug, after I had been buying a lot of potions (3 100-hp potions a day, seems like the best it gets). I’m not sure really how to recreate it because it just happened 0_o
I was going through my list of characters to decide who got that day’s potions, when I noticed Bonnie (who happened to be the first in the list) had a 100-hp potion, and I don’t think I put it there. I tried to take it from him and put it in the inventory space, and there was another potion beneath it (it also became extremely difficult to put that potion into the inventory). I pulled that potion out and sold it, because it was too hard to stick it in the inventory (for some reason only a tiny little region it would accept), and either that stopped the chain, or there were only three there to begin with… but even if so, that was really weird.
In summary: no idea how, but I magically summoned 3 100-hp potions in the first character’s item slots, and while I was screwing with ’em I couldn’t easily put them in the inventory (but I could easily sell them or put them in other characters’ item slots).… Also, in response to the previous post, it seems to me that having multiple lower-health potions can be more useful than having less potions that restore high amounts of health; I usually end up using potions to avoid letting several characters get tired by staying high on health, rather than restoring just a few characters from almost empty to full. Thus it seems more helpful to get four weaker potions with a Rep 7 or so character at the shop than getting three stronger potions with a Rep 10+ character (not to mention they’re cheaper). If really high-reputation characters could get a couple lower potions too, or even a multiple-use potion, that would probably help.
… Although, whatever ends up happening, it’s worth noting that in this build, at least the presence of potions makes it considerably easier to avoid having lots of low-health characters at once, if you got the cash. Not sure about the skills though, it’s hard for me to tell.… And sorry for the long post 😛
June 25, 2013 at 2:08 pm #2053Hey, long posts are A-OK! :3
You have discovered the item duping bug, here’s how to exploit it:
– equip an item
– click the back button, then go back to the item map
– move the equipped item to another character or the item reserve
– click the back button, return to item map
– the character you unequipped will still have the item!It has been fixed but not updated. The next update will fix pretty much all reported bugs, allowing me to focus on other things. Which I think will be balancing issues and the manual, which both have been bugging a lot of people.
Have me thinking, it might make sense for a higher rep character to get a discount on weaker items. Hm…
June 27, 2013 at 5:47 am #2055Using windows xp professional service pack 3, version 6/21. I found the secret game load graphics? http://s1290.photobucket.com/user/hey_its_smoxy/media/hot_debug/secretloadscreen_zps272bab0c.png.html Looks neat, comes in a variety of color patterns. This happens for about 2 seconds when opening the program, before any of the proper game graphics load. It may have to do with the more major issue of the game crashing every time I try to play it. I can get the main menu parts working fine, but as soon as I click a button to start the actual game, windows forces it to quit. Specifically, when clicking the confirmation (“Sure…”) for hard mode start, the screen will fade white and crash instead of loading the brothel map or any of the other main game graphics.

June 27, 2013 at 12:14 pm #2057I am actually gonna suggest doing a re-install of HoT. None of the graphics that I know of would look like that screen shot so it makes me wonder if the sprite sheet got corrupted?
June 27, 2013 at 5:28 pm #2058I’ve just gone through a few reinstalls and several restarts. Still having same issue. One of the reinstalls was using the installer that was from another computer that had no such issues with the game. Also redownloaded installer. I don’t really know how these things work, but I’ve got pretty much the same software setup on my other computer that experienced no playability issues. I can post hardware details if that is a possible cause.
I’ve also tried messing with the compatibility options for the properties of the game file. Didn’t actually do anything other than change the glitch pattern and crash speed. The fade white screen does still have the HoT logo in it, couldn’t see it before because the ‘windows crashes your programs’ window would popup over it before I could see it. I’ve also got a screencap that makes it look a lot more like I’ve got some corrupt game data: http://s1290.photobucket.com/user/hey_its_smoxy/media/hot_debug/secretloadscreen2_zps89276143.png.html
It’s probably not related, but here’s what happens when I open and close the game as fast as I can to try to see more glitch art: http://s1290.photobucket.com/user/hey_its_smoxy/media/hot_debug/myfault_zpsdacb8f4a.png.htmlJune 28, 2013 at 4:21 am #2060Another thing may be the XP SP3. I made the mistake of installing it years ago and it promptly (screwed) up everything on my computer to the point I had to do a retrofit back to SP2. I disabled updates after that because it kept trying to pull the same stunt each time. If you’ve had issues other than HoT since installing SP3, I’d seriously consider going back to SP2, since it seemed to cause more problems than it supposedly ‘fixed’. I haven’t had the issues you’ve described with 6.21.13 but I run XP SP2.
June 28, 2013 at 2:36 pm #2061I can’t even recall what the other versions of XP were like compared to SP3. This computer came with xp sp3 and doesn’t even have a cd drive, so the idea of trying to change what operating system I’m using is not appealing. Anyway, I’ve been satisfied with it so far.
