If it came with SP3, then they may have fixed the problems. I built my machine around the time of SP1, so at the time it may have been a hardware issue as well, I’m not sure.
June 28, 2013 at 9:46 pm #2063Take the cartridge out of the NES and give it a good blowjob~
Looks like those old console glitches, pretty awesome. Nostalgia aside, when DirectX sends you an error, it’s kind of beyond anything we can program around.
This is just a hunch, but said computer doesn’t happen to be a certain ‘toughbook’ laptop? Am curious about certain specs… if you could run “dxdiag” from the start menu and list:
– processor (system tab)
– memory (system tab)
– directX version (system tab)
– maybe page file? might be using most of your memory before running anything
– name & approx total memory (display tab)I run XP SP3, with a 256mb radeon, directX 9.0c – works fine, but am hesitant to write anything off when it comes to these things.
June 29, 2013 at 6:31 am #2066Even if the issue can’t be resolved, if you know what’s going on to make the glitch images, this could turn into a good source of glitch images. There should be a program somewhere that does this kind of thing by now. Maybe an emulator could..? Getting sidetracked.
Yep, toughbook. Proving to be not so tough recently.
Processor: Intel (R) Pentium (R) M processor 1300MHz
Memory: 1270MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Page file: 506MB used, 1759MB available
Name: Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller
Approx. Total Memory: 64.0 MBI’m gonna assume 64mb isn’t enough.
June 30, 2013 at 1:04 am #2067Kaive, I emailed you screenshots of the health points disparity I mentioned 6-22. Again, sorry for it being a week later, but work was kicking serious tail this past week…
Also noticed with the web build, sometimes the game has button-click delays, usually on the ‘Rep-Up’ screen. This is probably due to the slow frame-rate issue. I sometimes have to hold down the mouse button to upgrade a skill. I suspect the moving backdrop and confetti particles may be causing that.
June 30, 2013 at 7:38 pm #2069OK evilmathmagician, the problem might be that HoT relies upon a newer version of directx then is avaible for Windows XP, as is listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX , the highest version for XP is 4.09.00.0904, it does state later on, however, that “there are unofficial projects to port DirectX 10 to Windows XP.” with a link to: http://www.techmixer.com/download-directx-10-for-windows-xp/ which may be something to look into, or you could just try using OpenGL or some other alternative, or do what I did and installed it through Wine on a Linux distro, given Kaive’s setup works, that might not be the case. If it is Directx, then there will likely be a solution somewhere for it. And if its too little VRAM(video ram) then it is possible to allocate some system ram to use for vram, but I personally have found that to be unusually difficult :I, so you might be better off getting a new video and/or graphics card.
July 1, 2013 at 3:35 pm #2073Might be as simple as updating the video driver or something. Did a quick search to see intel 852/855 GM/GME is at version 14.19.50. (link to driver page)
As mentioned elsewhere, I’ve had issues with an old Toshiba Satellite laptop that are the same as yours. Avanti has some good advice. Only thing I can add is the game should only need DirectX 8 or higher.
@Firewolfe
Yeah, frame rate is pretty poor at certain points and won’t be able to check for mouse clicks as fast. Will probably tone things down a lot in the web version so it’s a smoother experience. And much thanks again for the screenshots and bug reporting, has been a ton of help!July 3, 2013 at 4:50 am #2078*rolls up his sleeves* Here we go:
Online build – As the game progresses the frame rate drops big time. After clicking the ‘Start’ button, the game seemed to just sit there before switching to a character ‘Rep-Up’ screen. After updating character attributes, I was presented with a screen that showed every object animation frozen in the background (Kaive, I emailed you a screenshot of this). I moved the mouse around the screen a bit and it cleared up, but later it did it again. At one point, everything I would do ‘frame-stepped’ each second. Finally, I was just finishing improvements to the house, started the day and everything ground to a halt. The game seemed to have stopped running entirely.
I’m going to try running it on IE instead of Firefox and see what happens.
EDIT: OK, I’ve apparently neglected IE to the point that it is horribly outdated and won’t run HTML5. So, um, yeah… Nevermind!
7.01.13 – No new issues so far.

July 3, 2013 at 7:45 am #2080When you say no new issues, you mean the one you mentioned was from the previous version? Have a pretty good idea what might be causing it, but will need to catch it in action.
July 4, 2013 at 2:27 am #2081Sorry, I was sleepy this morning, lol! The only things that so far happen with 7.01.13 are the graphics re-size distortion and crash-on-screensaver/OS-lock. I haven’t had any issues with the gameplay yet, but I was really focused on the ‘net build’s odd behavior. I have three days off this week, so I’ll be able to mess around with the offline build more in-depth to make sure if anything breaks.

July 5, 2013 at 8:52 pm #2084Update to above – No new problems with 7.01.13, only issues are the previously mentioned crash-on-screensaver and re-size graphic distortion. I’ve messed around with the online version extensively on multiple browsers and have gotten varied minor results. However, the one serious problem has been constant for all of them: when the house gets bigger, the game slows way the hell down to the point of crashing/freezing. Experiment results have been posted to a dedicated thread for perusal at your leisure, hehe!
Cheers!July 5, 2013 at 9:41 pm #2086Okaaayyyy, Build 7.01.13; I was placing items in the character slots and I got this little gem:

July 8, 2013 at 1:49 am #2087Wondering about Murguy’s seemingly redundant Obedience skills.
If he starts with 90 Obedience and has Behaved for +10, do Submissive and Domesticated need to be available?
July 9, 2013 at 2:02 pm #2089@Hatfox
The best answer I can give is to blame me for being silly. We still need to go over numbers some more. I want to say all character stats will probably be lowered as we balance things.Hopefully it will make more sense soon ^^;
@Firewolfe
A crash! awesome ^^ No idea off the top of my head, but we shall see how to fix this…July 9, 2013 at 2:26 pm #2091I thought you’d enjoy that :3
July 9, 2013 at 11:20 pm #2093@Firewolfe do you use a wireless mouse? From my (admittly limited :P) knowledge of bugs it looks like it might be a conflict with a mouse driver in game(actually had a similar problem myself with a dynex wireless mouse and on other programs as well on Linux until I updated the drivers using 3rd party software) or it might be an external program trying to access said mouse drivers.
