    Before I start, I don’t want others to assume ‘oh he abandoned the Common Grounds for Android’, That is not the case. I even rooted my phone and started tinkering with my CPU and GPU settings without having to use an emulator on my desktop. This also allows me to turn one of my CPU cores off and underclock it to see exactly what phones can handle it, as well as lower the resolution (since my kernel is unlocked as well). Don’t worry, I am also testing Android 2.2 and 2.3, as well as 4.0, 4.1, and soon 4.2. C:

    Not many know this, but I am working with Kaive to make music for House of Tail. See, I would be able to link you what I’ve posted, but what i’ve posted will not be final versions- as Kaive has yet to add his bit into the music.

    http://www.furaffinity.net/user/sparkythefox << Just search my gallery for songs marked as SparKaive and HoT.

    Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated, but note: if you have crit, please be constructive.

    Common Grounds for Windows 8 is quite the possibility. It is already fully compatible, however it is not out of the question to add just a bit more code to give it the extra Windows 8 touch.

    @Kaive
    : !Personally, I think it'd be great if you added or updated it, even if its just slightly. I know CG2 is something that may happen, but updating CG shows you're willing to provide new content or bug fixes to those who own your older products.

    For instance, if you were to code CG for Windows 8, or at least recompile it for the OS, you could damn near easily add:
    -Tile or Live Tile right onto the start menu, even if its just the logo for Common Grounds.
    -Add Wide-screen support. You dont even have to increase the resolution too much, just where if 640×480 is supported, make it 800×480
    -Add some sort of Anti-Aliasing, even if its the so-called 'poor mans AA'

    see, adding just one or two of those things still shows some sort of update, and you could even learn a thing or two through the programming. Visual Studios 2012 Express is available, so compiling it for Windows 8 really should NOT be a problem.

    (I'll have to download it myself to confirm the express version makes it as easy as the Pro version.)

    I didn’t know the reason you were messing with andriod was to port Common Grounds! Thought you were making your own game. Must have missed something XD

    I would like to fix some compatibility issues a few people have experienced, mostly by removing all the dll’s from the game so there’s no problem with permission levels or system configurations. And I’m aware of some issue with the installer that I’d like to tweak, about removing the demo entirely if you install the full game.

    I’m not sure how tiles work in Windows 8, beyond they’re like fancy dynamic icons in a new start menu. I’ll probably be sneaky and code a test, take it to Best Buy or someplace to test it on their machines. It feels more novelty and cosmetic than something important though.

    Re wide-screen: the game’s resolution is 800×600, I don’t think the ‘stretch’ option is compatible with 8 and would likely remove it. I don’t think people mind having black bars on the sides in wide-screen to maintain aspect ratio, and too much of it was hard-coded to that resolution. 800×480 is a possibility, though it would mean people wouldn’t be able to see everything.

    Re anti-aliasing: not sure what you mean here. The sprites already have blended edges, being transparent png’s. I could resize sprites to fit different resolutions, but the performance requirement would be through the roof.

    So Win 8 isn’t really a problem, just that I don’t have a machine to test on yet. And I feel I’m very behind on House of Tail ;_;

    #Metro: Sneaking it into best buy? xD You COULD always just send me the file or something ya know. Wouldn’t want someone to log onto a computer to see if its the one they want, and somehow a porn game is still running in the background. Oh my god I can just see it now. But yeah, its a nice little cosmetic feature- and it makes the feel of the game …well, feel just slightly up to date. Ya know?

    #Widescreen: Well… its not actually Windows 8 that does the stretching, its the monitor and graphics card thats hooked up to it that does that. For instance, When I played Common Grounds on my crap PC, there were the black bars on the side of the screen. On my laptop, the monitor and graphics stretch anything that doesn’t have widescreen support.

    #Anti-Aliasing: I guess you’re right. We aren’t exactly dealing with super high quality models in this game… its just, I’unno. Just trying to figure stuff out.

    Up to date is good. Will likely move to update it after HoT.

    And hey! I’m very certain to remove all traces of the game when I do such things XD

    That’s interesting, (but not surprising,) about the forced full screen stretch. I’ve noticed that on an older laptop, the video card simply ignores commands to maintain aspect ratio.

    Kaive, everything is at a standstill for me right now. I got laid off after black friday, I’m having to do too much to help keep me afloat… I haven’t even been on FA in forever.

    I’m trying to make music… but I really lost inspiration since I’m kind of in a frenzy to get things straight. My phone’s crapping out too, and I already lost all my data on just about everything.

    I recently got me headphones, so I can make music in peace when I’m calm enough. Either way, sorry for the belated update. I’m learning a bit about Visual Studios 2012 Express like I said I would, and it IS easy to create a Windows 8 compatible game from an existing project.

    Anyways, I don’t know when I’ll respond. But be sure to email me every now and then, okay?

    I could always send you an email but at least this way anyone who’s wondering about my progress sees: Its not going so well. ;u;

    #1437

    Okay, will try to keep in touch!

    It’s no big deal about the music, can always add it in later as it’s just a web game. This is all just fun and games, so best to focus on keeping afloat first!

    Hey Kaive, did you get skype just to pull the music from me..? You’re never on.

    In any case, I have a few more project files for you if you want them, I managed to find a few hidden in a backup folder I had created.

    Also, CG for Android is on a indefinite hiatus. I am still in a bit of a pickle with my life. Sorry guys.

    Instant messaging is fun, but a huge distraction for me so I hardly ever log in. Am always eager to accept and use music project files of course ^^

    Interestingly enough, with the recent Common Grounds update (not sure if I mentioned this anywhere,) in theory we can now easily port it to mobile devices. But due to the resolution and whatever else I’m sure will come up, I don’t think we’re that interested in testing this theory.
