It has been a busy time outside of fupoco related stuff for us. Expect more interesting updates next week, but until then…

Saving and loading should be bug-free!

You can also use the right mouse button on a character’s icon to send them to your reserve.

  • NEW – right mouse button: instantly send a character icon to the reserve
  • fixed – (web) save a game, refresh the web page, then load: game unplayable
  • fixed – various load-game bugs…
    • icon layering (customers / coins appear underneath)
    • character health appears full when it isn’t
    • double characters & characters already purchsed appear in hire menu
    • runaway characters – place icons on invalid spots
    • icon on other map will appear in wrong place briefly when changing maps, one time only
  • fixed – (web) leader icon incorrectly showing up on goal-to-map transitions

A quick update on some early bugs…

The versions will be the build dates – we don’t see any reason to make up some arcane numbering scheme… unless you really want “v2.111.42.999” shenanigans 😎

  • fixed – press item button twice with no items (stalled web version)
  • fixed – save/load errors (you will need to create a new save)
  • possibly fixed – portraits shaking then becoming stuck (movement code rewritten)

This marks Fupoco’s first venture into online gaming. Hurray!

I’m probably going to take a day or two off to freshen up. There’s a lot left to do, and we really want to add a ton of more content. Not to mention keeping track of your suggestions and ideas. Most questions should be answered once we flesh out the game’s website some more.

House of Tail’s initial release is still scheduled for the end of the month, May 31st. Just a friendly reminder.

Currently working on the basic structure of ‘casual play’, so you’ll have at least one mode to play.

Whether or not we finish this, we’ll release it regardless. The idea has always been to release it first, then update and add content afterward. While we usually prefer to only release when the game’s more or less finished, please understand House of Tail will be very rough at first~

And who knows how big it will get~~

The game will be free to play online, but there will be a download version available for purchase. It will be the same game, plus some features that we can’t quite fit into the online version, such as multiple save slots and a higher frame rate.

I hope you’ll enjoy what’s there and thanks for waiting 🙂

Town map complete!

Here you will be able to buy items and upgrades, train, heal, and hire characters. It will be a busy place. The house map is more or less finished as well, but we still need to add in some detail graphics.

HoT – Goal Map

House of Tail Goal Map

Finished House of Tail’s goal map.

If you assign any leaders, you can set their focus here. Some characters may have leader-only skills, but all characters can set the leader’s focus. It should make choices more interesting: do you set aside a character to lead the house? And if you do, do you want to focus on leveling up at the cost of making money, or make money at the cost of gaining experience? So it’s like six default leader skills all characters will have, but you can only choose one at a time.

Hopefully the rest should make sense. That blank space under ‘upgrades’ will show the icons of upgrades you have purchased.

When is this coming out?!

We have decided to include only the house and town maps for the initial release. This way, the answer will be sooner rather than later!

Ursa Major Awards 2012 – Recommended Anthropomorphic Game

We had fun at Furry Weekend Atlanta and it’s really nice to be back!

Took a lot of pictures for whenever we’re ready to begin filling out our ‘bonus’ section. Not sure what we’ll do with them besides something silly. Also heard talk about quite a few furry card games in development. They’re supposed to be hush-hush, so that’s all I can say, but it’s interesting in so far as I didn’t hear any talk about making video games beyond Furoticon Online, which is a video game of a card game.

We also had a chance to really sit down and plan out what we need to focus on, taking a break and thinking about ‘the big picture’. Which mostly meant putting to the side many ideas and focusing on just a few. I don’t want to talk about what we plan to do, as it’s better to talk about what we’re actually doing, but the big takeaway was needing to focus on building up our game library, and fleshing out this website.

Trials in Tainted Space – Offbeatr

In other news, Fenoxo (developer of Corruption of Champions) has started a crowd-funding drive on Offbeatr for their next game: Trials in Tainted Space. It’s described as an “erotic, ultimately customizable, textual adventure game”. They’ve already surpassed their goal by quite a lot with many days still to go!

Out of Town

Just a quick courtesy call to let you know that we will be away at Furry Weekend Atlanta between March 14 – 18, and won’t be able to respond to anything fupoco related until afterward.

Minor Site Updates

Removed obsolete questions and added some new ones to the faq:

  • Can I offer my services or help out?
  • Will there be a Mac or Ubuntu version?
  • Can I transfer my demo save files into the full game?
  • Avast! Antivirus Auto Sandbox does not recognize the .exe as safe!
  • The graphics are not loading in Windows XP!

And updated Common Grounds’ manual:

  • Note to Windows XP users
  • New default install directories for v1.4

Video game manuals are a curious thing, as nowadays most games have a tutorial/manual built into them. It has us thinking if we even need to bother with one for House of Tail. I think they’re cool and a nice novelty, so we probably will. But who knows!

Forums…

A couple of users have told us that they have triggered our spam protection while either trying to register or log in recently, and we’re curious exactly how bad it has been. It’s a tricky thing to check. We have had to set up fairly extreme countermeasures against spam. While spammers have yet to make it past our protection, we are upset that some legit users have been blocked. We’re trying to figure something out, and are very sorry about any inconvenience.

The level up screen is more or less coded and drawn. We will definitely need some fanfare music to accompany those trumpets and confetti. Skills are assigned by a character’s class. You can sometimes gain new ones, but each character can only have 6 at most, so you may have to forget one.

Looking at the picture, I should note that the level up screen is the only place the ‘alt’ image of a character is shown currently, besides during the endings. The game is very modular, and we will add content and more story modes after the initial release, so it’s always on our mind about how else to use things.

I think an obvious use would be to add in a tiny story arch for each character that uses a mix of their pose and pinup pictures, but at the same time, we are a bit hesitant to add in too much text or any second person erotic literature “You do this and they moan and sex” kind of thing. While it’s cool for visual novels or text adventures, I don’t think it fits here. Maybe some variant? Who knows!
